Message from Jamie our Cross Country Captain...

As you will most likely know by now Paul Boyle (juniors), Lynne E Em (senior ladies) and I (senior men) were named as the captains for the 2016/17 North Eastern Harrier League (NEHL) or for the purposes of Graham re-branded as the North Eastern Trail Running League (NETRL) We are thrilled and proud to be captains and we really hope we can build on the clubs amazing 1st Season finishing 11th (Men’s) & 10th (Ladies).
Out of interest for members who took part last season you may or may not know there is also an Individual Grand Prix League which I will post but in summary

Amy Pattison - 1st * Senior Ladies - Final Position 65
Glynis Turner - 1st * Vet Ladies- Final Position 110

Be prepared for some serious nagging over the coming weeks from the 3 of us! :-)
Seriously, for those who haven’t experienced Harrier League (X-Country) give it ago it is fun (honest), you may get cold, wet (no different to club nights) but you will get to run at some fantastic venues representing our fantastic club! It’s not about how fast you can run, it’s a team event so we need as many of you out there as possible, last season there were venues when we didn’t have a full team out so we got penalized and we still finished the top half of the league! We may not be the biggest club out taking part compared to some of the established clubs but what we can match each and every one of them with our Team Spirit ! Hey if Leicester can win the Premier League we can finish higher next season...
Our committee has kindly allowed us to buy a shiny new event tent to keep you all warm & dry before and after races, so no excuse!

Tuesday 9th August ~ Uphill Stream Running with Rob and Dawn (strengthening/foot placement)

Tuesday 16th August ~ Up, Up, Up and Away. Hills, hills and more hills with Andrew D (strengthening)

Tuesday 23rd August ~ Orienteering at Prudhoe, Tyne Riverside. Maps provided (map skills/speed work) - Children welcome with adults.

Tuesday 30th August ~ Pontop Pike Mountain hill reps x 7 (strengthening)

Tuesday 6th September ~ 5k Trail Time Trial (speed work)

Tuesday 13th September ~ Bermuda Triangle. Fartlek Session (speed work)

Tuesday 20th September ~ Extreme Hills. Approx 1050ft of climb packed into a 5 mile circular route including summiting Pontop Pike (strengthening and character building!)

Tuesday 27th September ~ Flying 30's with Coach John Curtis (speed work)

Tuesday 4th October ~ 5k Trail Time Trial (speed work)

Tuesday 11th October ~ Red Kite Trail Race Route - 8 miles (endurance)

Tuesday 18th October ~ Woodland Fartlek 200m x 1 min recovery (speed work)

Tuesday 25th October ~ Uphill Stream to Summitt 500m X 6 reps (strengthening)

Tuesday 1st November ~ Winter 5k Trail Time Trial (speed work) - Headtorches please.

Good News Coaching Fans!

Dawn Metcalfe - Leader - Visionary - Chairwoman - Club Coach
It's offical girls and boys Dawn has now passed her exams and is now officially a Coach in running fitness!!!

In her own words:
My main aim is to make the coaching sessions as varied and challenging as possible whilst taking athletes out of their comfort zones but appropriate for different abilities. Has any one every sprinted up Pontop Pike (the hard route) and back down 7 times?

Prepare to be challenged but be amazed at your inner strength...
